Starting off the second week of school with an on-campus, social Greek life event was definitely a great idea. The four organizations hosting this event are labeled as the first established Greek organizations within the African-American and Latino communities. This is “The 2nd Annual “First of the First BBQ.”
On September 8th, 2013 an array of cultures gathered on Livingston Campus at the picnic area to enjoy a festive BBQ with classmates, friends and alumni. Bringing unity not only among these four groups, this event helped bring together other students and cultural fraternities and sororities on campus.
Non-Greek affiliated students also enjoyed their time at this event as they interacted with other classmates and friends. We learn more about the people around us at social events rather than class settings.
With a wide range in cultures, the DJ made sure to bring the BBQ to life with different genres of music. Students were dancing, eating and socializing with one another.
Attending these kinds of social events is essential to grasping the full college life experience. Events like this is a great opportunity for first-year students as they get a chance to meet others who are involved on campus.
We have these four Greek organizations to thank for kicking off the semester with an outstanding and diverse event:
- Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Delta Iota Chapter
- Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Iota Psi Chapter
- Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. Beta Chapter
- Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Epsilon Chapter
